The story about the .7%
Once upon a time there was a world, a planet called Earth. This world had 6 billion people, and every minute 176 babies are born. If you calculate the figures, that is about a person a second. If we take this as minutes, out of those 60 babies, 20 are born in sustainable homes. Meaning they have the basic needs. Taking into consideration that those 20 babies get a suitable education, only 2 consider developing entrepreneurial skills. Out of those two, only .7% consider using their entrepreneurial skills to aid others.
In such a world, a person that is part of the .7% needs to do two things. First, leave aside selfishness in order to declare a better world. If someone decides to take action, they will learn the .7% are not the ones who get recognized, but the ones who make a true and viable difference. Second thing one must do is to learn service and make it your habit to humble yourself for a greater cause. A true leader, that is socially and environmentally aware, is someone who serves others. This leader will not expect a service for himself, but be submissive and use his resources in order to aid the unprivileged.
If such decision is taken, then there is an open door. This door leads to many concerns, anxieties, harassment and corruption. If the heart be strong enough, it will endure the consequences and learn to use everything to his advantage. An Entrepreneur knows how to manage resources beautifully, imagine if one could use this capital in order to achieve a certain difference in a community. Money is one main concern, education and self reliance, among others, fall into the main concerns of the poor. The whole idea of an Entrepreneur is humans, if developing skills to control all these materials do not make you grow as a person, then you might not be human at all.
What is true is never an easy path, most of those paths are the hardest. Being a socially aware Entrepreneur is one of the toughest targets to achieve in this world. To follow the truth, means to educate yourself, learn, experience, touch, feel, want, need, eat, recognize, simplify and love others. Investors always invest in people, not projects nor technology. This is why using entrepreneurial skills to create a wave of ideas that will help those in need is so important. If you as a junior entrepreneur have a creative, fresh and innovative visualization of a project that could bring forth, not only better resources, but better acknowledgements, then you will be sponsored.
A true leader is the last of the row, the one who works the hardest, the one who waits the longest, the one who endures the farthest. I believe I have the strength of heart to make people invest in people. Because understanding this, makes the world a better place. Philanthropy is a term easily used, but never easily achieved with a true purpose. Now my objective is to bring out this term into all the glory it could get. That glory needs to be represented as the smile on someone’s face. Someone who now has a better quality of life, someone who moves from being part of the 60 people who are born into decayed circumstances, into part of the .7% who cares about the world. This is all achieved by making the decision to be part of the .7%.
If an entrepreneur manages to correctly use his environment for the benefit of others, the benefits are many. He will have increased opportunity for corporate responsibility, combined with profitability, enhanced reputation, improved integration in new markets and the increased ability to access consumers at the base of the economic pyramid.
Now, to achieve such amazing benefits, you must first train yourself. Training has basics, one of them would be to learn. What a greater way to learn than to open your range of view by traveling and experiencing? While searching within me a true reason why I would love to travel abroad and learn new things, I found something lacking.
I understood that traveling to another country brings you experiences that you could have not had on your own country. I also knew that you would learn things that you never imagined you would ever learn. All those reasons are good reasons to give as a justified answer to the question “Why do I travel to another country?.” As the true human being, those reasons should be sufficient, but as a particular human that searches for things out side the box, no. There had to be a gap between learning and experiencing, something that will be a contribution to others and not only yourself. After meditating, it hit me like a rock on a stream of ideas.
If you travel abroad, you bring with you your own identity, your nationality. My reason to travel abroad is now clear to me: I want to travel because then, I can contribute to another country the things I’ve learned from mine. Honestly, I admit I want to learn, experience and explore new places, yet it all comes down to giving to others. If you learn, it is to contribute what you learned and apply it. I have learned many things in Mexico, things that will walk beside me for the rest of my life. If I travel to another country, I will represent what I am: a Mexican, and I will teach others by my actions, what I’ve learned to become who I am today.
A wise man once said “ I wish to do something Great and Wonderful, but I must start by doing the little things like they were Great and Wonderful” (ALbert Einstein)
In conclusion, to develop the skills needed for truthful entrepreneurship is what makes the whole world go from poor to rich. Entrepreneurs are the leaders of a new capital system, in which they are the ones who decide who gets what and what goes to whom. Being a socially aware entrepreneur gives you the capability of using every type of raw material or resource, and turn it into a machine that creates amazing things such as jobs, professions, sustained homes, basic needs and above all, a true difference among those who are not privileged.
The hard task of spreading the love.
